If you have children you should be aware that they may be suffering emotional harm as a result of the other persons behaviour. You could be seen as failing to protect the children if you do not take action to prevent the abuse reoccurring or if you resume your relationship with an abusive partner. In some cases this may result in social services becoming involved with your family.

Practical Steps You Can Take To Protect Yourself and Your Children
There are a number of practical steps which can be taken to protect yourself and your children.

  • Keep a list of emergency contact numbers to hand.
  • Keep a diary of events.
  • If you suffer any injury take photographs.
  • If you have to seek medical attention because of any injury then make a note of the doctor you saw and the date and time.
  • Keep the police informed at every stage.
