Devon’s leading family law firm is national finalist 

Family law specialist The Family Law Company has been chosen as a finalist in the Legal Aid Practitioners Group 2021 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards.

 The company is one of the 26 individuals and nine organisations shortlisted in 12 award categories. from around the country including Wales, Northern Ireland and the Midlands.

The Family Law Company is one of just three finalists in the Regional Legal Aid Firm category. The company is a champion of legal aid in the South West with a team dedicated ensuring access to justice for everyone, no matter what their background or financial status.

Director Stephen Sowden who heads up the company’s Care Team explains: “You just have to look at the past year and the increase in cases to understand how critical legal aid is, and the dedication of those who champion this undervalued area of law.

“Congratulations to all the finalists and nominees for showing enormous levels of commitment during the pandemic to make sure less fortunate clients receive legal support and the right result.”

Chris Minnoch, CEO of LAPG, which organises the LALY awards on a not-for-profit basis to celebrate the work of social justice lawyers, says:

‘This year’s finalists give an insight into the range, depth and breadth of the incredible life-changing work that social justice lawyers do – and the vital role they play in ensuring access to justice for individuals, families and communities. It is testimony to the importance of the LALY awards to the legal aid sector that we had a bumper crop of compelling and inspiring nominations this year – despite the extreme pressures we are all facing due to the pandemic.’

The winners will be announced at the LALY21 ceremony to be broadcast live on 6 July.
