Portrait exhibition marks start of Everyday Bravery campaign

The Family Law Company unveiled its campaign Everyday Bravery with a poignant exhibition celebrating people who show courage in their everyday lives.

Almost 30 individuals stepped forward to be photographed for striking portraits that tell powerful stories of resilience, strength and hope. Each sitter also contributed a word or phrase that captured what bravery means to them.

The portraits were created by photographer Charlie Flounders, who was a nominee in last year’s campaign. Charlie lost the sight in one eye after an accident while filming in Germany but has gone on to run her business with creativity and success.

Charlie said: “It’s been such an honour to create art for The Family Law Company to launch their Everyday Bravery awards. They completely trusted my creative process and gave me the beautiful space to create magic in my own way.”

The portraits were revealed at the exhibition hosted at The Positive Lights Project in Exeter, More than 100 guests attended, including members of the business community, local influencers, and family and friends of the portrait sitters. As they viewed the images, visitors listened to an audio soundtrack of conversations recorded during the photography sessions, adding depth and emotion to the stories.

Nominations now open

The exhibition sponsored by Yellowtail Financial Planning, Insight6 and Barc Architects, marked the start of a public call for nominations. The Family Law Company is inviting people to put forward individuals they know who show bravery in their everyday lives. This could be someone coping with illness, supporting others while struggling themselves, dealing with loss or devastating events, or overcoming personal challenges.

The Family Law Company Director, Kerry England said: “We’re really excited to launch Everyday Bravery for the second time. As family law specialists we frequently come across examples of such bravery. This is a chance for someone you know to be recognised for their courage, and to have the possibility of a very special stay at a wonderful hotel on Dartmoor.”

Last year’s campaign received 50 nominations. One nominee, Zoe was chosen to enjoy a two-night stay donated by luxury hotel and spa, Bovey Castle. Of her experience, she said: “I had the best time! It was honestly such an incredible experience, I can’t even put it into words. Thank you once again for such an amazing opportunity, it still feels so surreal.” Bovey Castle has generously offered the same experience for this year’s campaign.
