Q & A with Donna Hart

  • Who do you support?

Citizens Advice Exeter

  • What do you do?

I am a Trustee sitting on the Operations and Policies Committee.

  • What do they do?

Citizens Advice Exeter can help sort out money issues, legal and other problems. They provide free, confidential, impartial and independent information and advice on a wide range of subjects including:

  • benefits
  • employment
  • housing
  • debt
  • consumer rights
  • legal issues

They also offer more than advice. Citizens Advice Exeter campaigns for change using client experiences to influence local and national policymakers and service providers to improve policies and services that aren’t working.

The Citizens Advice service aims to:

  • provide the advice people need for the problems they face
  • improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives

Advice provided by the Citizens Advice service is free, independent, confidential, and impartial, and available to everyone regardless of race, sex, disability, sexuality or nationality.

  • Why did you get involved?

It was a surprise to learn that the CAB is a charity and relies on donations. I wanted to be able to support them, and the worthwhile work they do within the community. The work that all the CAB volunteers do is second to none and I really enjoy working with them.

  • How else does The Family Law Company help?

Fiona Wadey and Charlotte Butler Kitto attend a monthly legal clinic at the CAB in Exeter, offering free advice to those in need.

During the year, volunteers throughout Exeter CAB gave 34,112 hours of time through regular volunteering, equivalent to 18.7 full-time staff members, at a value of around £570,147.
