What to expect when you make your first call to The Family Law Company

We understand that picking up the phone to speak to a family lawyer can feel like a big step and for many, it’s the first time sharing their situation out loud. That’s why we make our process as clear, calm, and reassuring as possible, right from your very first enquiry.

Step one: speaking to our First Impressions Team

When you call, you’ll first speak to our friendly and professional reception team, we like to call them our First Impressions Team. They’ll take some initial details and make sure your enquiry reaches the right place.

Step two: your call with our New Client Team

From there, your details come to us, the New Client Call Team. We’ll do the necessary checks and then call you back for a more in-depth conversation about your circumstances.

We don’t work to a strict time limit; every call is different. Some might take five minutes, others up to thirty. However long it takes, you’ll have our full attention. We are calm, empathetic, and above all, active listeners.

We will ask you for some information

The questions we ask will depend on the type of enquiry.

  • Divorce or finances – we might ask how long you’ve been married, how long you’ve been separated, whether there’s property involved (and an approximate value), and if there’s a mortgage. We may also ask about pensions, savings, and joint accounts but don’t worry, we don’t need exact figures at this stage.
  • Children matters – we may ask about current arrangements, your hopes for the outcome, the children’s ages and dates of birth, and whether other family members are involved.

It might feel like we’re asking a lot of questions, but there’s a reason. Every detail helps us make sure you’re matched with the lawyer who has the right expertise and approach for your situation.  It also means that when you have your initial appointment, your lawyer is already fully prepared.

A safe, open and free conversation

Many clients are nervous because they don’t know what to expect. We find that being honest and open about the process helps people feel more at ease. For some, this first call is the first time they’ve spoken about their situation so we are here to listen, without judgement.

Your first call is free

“How much will this call cost me?” The answer is simple: nothing. Your first call with us is completely free of charge, and that’s something we’re proud of.

Clients have told us their experience booking an appointment was pleasant, helpful, and stress-free. This is exactly what we aim for. We live by our core values every day being brave for our clients, leaning into difficult conversations and listening, thinking and then acting.  Your first half hour appointment with your lawyer will be free too.

If you’re ready to talk, we’re ready to listen.

Call us today and take the first step toward finding the right support for you and your family.
