Each month we are featuring one of our solicitors or chartered executives. We feel strongly that our clients should be matched with the right lawyer, so this is one way of finding out a little more about our team.

Our lawyer of the month for December is Hannah Porter. Hannah is based at our Exeter office.

Q&A – Ten Questions

  1. What is your job title?

Solicitor

  1. How long have you been at The Family Law Company?

One year and three months

  1. How did you come to be at TFLC?

My fiancé (now husband) lived in Exeter – he’s a Marine Biologist. I was completing my training contract in Oxford, but I knew that when I qualified, we would want to live in the same city. There’s no sea anywhere near Oxford, so I had to move! The Family Law Company was the most approachable firm I had an interview with. Happily for me, I was offered the job.

  1. What inspired you to go into family law?

It was the privilege of working with and helping individuals through an incredibly difficult period of their life. Being able to make a positive difference and find practical solutions to bring some good out of challenging situations is also very rewarding.

  1. Describe your specialism/s

Primarily divorce and finance work. I also undertake private law children work.

  1. What would you say are your key strengths as a family lawyer?

I am approachable and resolution focused. If there is something that needs to be done I make sure it gets done.

  1. What is the achievement you are most proud of in your job?

A good result after representing a client at Court always makes me feel proud.

  1. Why do you think TFLC is different from other family lawyers?

TFLC has a strong ethos of valuing its employees and clients; protecting the vulnerable and providing a holistic approach to any work undertaken. The problem-solving, resolution approach taken to every aspect of the business really makes TFLC stand out from the rest.

  1. Are there any related volunteering roles you undertake?

I volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Exeter. I am also the secretary for the Junior Lawyers Division of the Devon and Somerset Law Society.

  1. What do you do to relax?

I love walking on Dartmoor or being by the sea – but in the winter I tend to relax in front of the fire with a good book and hot chocolate.
