Many viewers will have been gripped by the recent Eastenders storyline involving a family and their contact with social services.

In one distressing scene, children were removed from the family home following an anonymous call regarding bruising to a child’s arm. But how realistic was the storyline?

The storyline on Eastenders has been criticised as portraying social services as removing children very quickly without proper investigation and without speaking to those involved.

The role of a social worker includes working with families to support them through difficult times and ensure that children are safeguarded from harm. Their role is to provide support and help to those that need it.
