Ball gowns and black-tie were the order of the day as Devon’s business elite gathered at Exeter University’s Great Hall for the Venus Awards gala awards dinner last night.

As an award sponsor, the team from Hartnell Chanot & Partners, the family law specialists, were out in force to cheer on the finalists and present the award for Best New Business.

Jane Chanot, Director, commented on the firm’s choice of category: “At Hartnell Chanot & Partners we work with many clients who are facing adversity in their family lives and are taking positive and often daunting steps to improve their situations. Sponsoring the New Business Award gave us a chance to celebrate women who have taken a brave step into the world of business, following their passion and setting out on their own.”

Following an intense and extremely challenging judging process, the judging team from the firm were able to whittle down more than 20 outstanding businesses to 3 incredible finalists – Radiance Medispa, Dr Ros Debenham; The School of Holistic Cosmetology, Star Khechara and Choccie Bar, Katie Jones.

Rachel Buckley, Director and Stuart Wright, Marketing and Business Development Manager presented the award and their introductions helped to sum up the outstanding quality of the three finalists:

“The School of Holistic Cosmetology – Star Khechara has developed an incredible training program that caters to an international client base, providing them with a completely unique understanding of organic skincare. As a true testament to her work a number of Star’s students have gone on to set up award winning natural skincare brands.”

“Radiance MediSpa – Dr Ros Debenham and her daughter Katie have set out to bring a piece of London to the heart of Exeter. Based in their beautiful venue, they are able to deliver the very latest products and treatments for face and body aesthetics; health and fitness; hair and image; nutrition and diet. They really are committed to a holistic approach to beauty, health and well-being.”

“Choccie Bar – Katie Jones can best be described as a chocolate artist, Devon’s very own Willy Wonka! She has developed a clever and engaging brand around a creative product that is simply outstanding. The attention to detail and commitment to experimentation highlights Katie’s passion for her work, passion that you can taste in each and every piece of chocolate…and there is still so much more to come.”

Rachel commented on the difficulty of narrowing down such an impressive field:

“Choosing our finalists and our eventual winner was a really difficult process; we were trying to compare businesses that were just starting out against those with up to 2 years of successful trading.”

Despite the judging challenges, a decision was made.

And the Venus Award went to…Radiance Medispa
