Machaela is a trainee Legal Executive specialising in cases involving domestic abuse as well as private law children cases. She has close links with domestic violence organisations in the region and has extended her expertise and understanding with a Level 2 Certificate in Domestic Abuse through Barnardos.
Machaela is a Graduate member of CILEx having completed her Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice in 2020.
In 2020, Machaela was named one of Cornwall’s ’30 Under 30’ and was highly commended for Paralegal of the Year in the Modern Law Awards. She was also a finalist for Best Family Law Paralegal in the National Paralegal Awards.
Machaela is also Education Co-ordinator for Cornwall Junior Lawyers Division (JLD).
In her free time, Machaela enjoys surfing, paddleboarding, playing golf and running.
Her work includes:
- Representing a mother on an application by the father for a Child Arrangements Order that the children spend time with him. This case involved significant allegations of physical and emotional abuse which lead to a Finding of Fact hearing taking place and the Court making findings against the father.
- Representing a mother on an urgent application for a Specific Issue Order seeking the return of the children by the father who had refused to return them and a Prohibited Steps Order preventing the father from removing the children from the mother’s care again.
- Representing a client who had been subject to domestic abuse and successfully securing a Non Molestation Order and Occupation Order preventing the other party from returning to the home and causing any further harm.
