This months lawyer of the month is Amy Langford. Amy works from our Exeter office.

  1. What is your job title?

I am a solicitor in the Divorce & Finance team based in Exeter. I also meet with clients in Taunton.

  1. How long have you been at The Family Law Company?

I joined the company in August this year.

  1. How did you come to be at TFLC?

I worked at a firm in Somerset for a number of years that dealt with all aspects of law. After I returned from taking a sabbatical I felt that I needed a change – I wanted to work for a more specialised company. TFLC has a good reputation for family law and after meeting with the Directors I knew instantly this was the company I wanted to work for.

  1. What inspired you to go into family law?

Before training to become a lawyer, I was a legal secretary. Out of all the areas I worked in family law was something I knew straight away I enjoyed and wanted to make a career in.

Working in family law means each day is different. I especially enjoy the client interaction and being able to help people through one of the most stressful and difficult times in their life. Every client is different, meaning each case is new and challenging.

  1. Describe your specialism/s

I specialise in all areas of family law but in particular I advise clients in relation to divorce and the financial consequences of a marriage breakdown. I advise parents in relation to disputes regarding the arrangements for their children, and deal with cases of protection from domestic abuse. I also represent my clients in Court proceedings.

  1. What would you say are your key strengths as a family lawyer?

Understanding and managing people’s needs. It is important to have a non-confrontational approach in order to avoid inflaming matters but be forceful when you need to be.

  1. What is the achievement you are most proud of in your job?

Every time I have good feedback from my clients! Helping my clients through a very difficult time and knowing they are happy at the end of it with the work I have done makes being a family lawyer very rewarding.

  1. Why do you think TFLC is different from other family lawyers?

TFLC are specialists. I enjoy working with so many family lawyers, each with their own strengths meaning as a team we can provide excellent client care and legal advice. We also have a dedicated support team who again are specialists as they deal only with family law clients.

  1. Are there any related volunteering roles you undertake?

When working in Somerset I previously advised clients at the CAB regarding all areas of law and this is something I hope to be involved in again in Devon.

  1. What do you do to relax?

I enjoy travelling, adventures and spending time with friends and family. I have recently come back to work after taking some time out to travel. I lived and worked in Sydney for several months and travelled around a number of other countries experiencing different cultures, lifestyles and foods.
