Each month we are featuring one of our solicitors or chartered executives. We feel strongly that our clients should be matched with the right lawyer, so this is one way of finding out a little more about our team.

Our lawyer of the month for September is Imran Khodabocus. Imran Khodabocus is based at our Exeter and Taunton office.

Q&A – Ten Questions.

  1. What is your job title?

I am an Associate Solicitor and Team Leader of the Children/Domestic Violence team.

  1. How long have you been at The Family Law Company?

Over two years.

  1. How did you come to be at TFLC?

I think it was a meeting of minds. I wanted to progress and TFLC was looking for someone. I met with Rachel Buckley and Donna Hart, and Norman Hartnell and Jane Chanot, and the rest, as they say, is history.

  1. What inspired you to go into family law?

I used to do counselling when I was at university, which involved a lot of listening to people’s personal problems. I think it was then that I knew for sure that I wanted to do something ‘people’ based when I became a lawyer. Family law is all about trying to help people with their own problems, so it was the perfect fit.

  1. Describe your specialism/s

Representing people (both adults and children) in cases involving children and working with vulnerable clients, such as victims of domestic violence.

  1. What would you say are your key strengths as a family lawyer?

In terms of my clients, some of my strengths are being good at listening to problems and coming up with solutions. As a team leader, I’d say always being on hand to help.

  1. What is the achievement you are most proud of in your job?

I was very proud to get on to the Children’s Panel and to become a team leader. I am also very proud to have won the ‘best dressed male’ award (both here and at my previous company).

  1. Why do you think TFLC is different from other family lawyers?

We are all specialists in family law. That’s all we do and we do it well. This means that the quality of our advice is better. Also, we always go that extra mile to be approachable: with each other, with our clients and also the communities we serve.

  1. Are there any related volunteering roles you undertake?

Outside of work I’m involved with my son’s school. I also do a lot of volunteer work within my own local community in Taunton.

  1. What do you do to relax?

Relaxing? What’s that? When I do get time, I do like to watch my favourite films and TV series. I am also a big DC Comics and Transformers fan, and I really like music. I’m a bit of a geek sometimes – if something interests me, like a song or film, I will research it.
