On the 20th June 2013, Hartnell Chanot & Partners Director, Julia Clayton set off on an epic 200 mile bicycle ride through Holland.

This was the 12th annual Biking for Children in Care long distance cycle ride and the second such journey that Julia has tackled. All of the riders taking part in the event have been fundraising for The Who Cares? Trust. The trust will be using the funds to support young people in care and to improve their life prospects.

During June 2012 Julia was part of a 57 person tour, that included a number of children panel solicitors and Guardians, that tackled 200 miles of French countryside, despite fracturing her shoulder during training.

Julia is one of the leaders of Hartnell Chanot & Partners’ outstanding children law team in Exeter, providing support and advice for all manner of children law matters, particularly those involving care proceedings.

Prior to the ride, Julia commented: “I represent many children in care and am very keen to support a charity which does such good work helping children in care. They are disadvantaged in so many ways. The Who Cares Trust recognises that and works hard to improve their plight through working on policy issues and providing practical support such as additional educational input”. She went on to note that: “I’m quite relieved that Claire Harding, a Sports masseur from Exeter, is also taking part in the ride so I am hoping to remain pain free for the entire trip!”

The group have been cycling 50-60 miles a day through the Dutch countryside. Starting in the town of Rhenen they made their way to the first overnight stop in Tiel before heading East to Arnhem and then North to Harderwijk. The route then turned West, tracing the shores of the Wolderwijd and Eemmeer, the journey is set to draw to a close the outskirts of Amsterdam later on today. In all the ride will have taken 4 days. The riders have had the backup of a 9 person strong, 4 vehicle support team for the duration of the trip.

Some of Julia’s updates from the trip will be posted shortly along with some hopefully fantastic photos of the Dutch countryside.
