The nation is gripped by series two of Dr Foster, with many still talking about that iconic dinner party from the end of series one.

However, as the series progresses it is becoming increasingly apparent that son Tom is getting lost in his parents’ ongoing battles. Neither Gemma nor Simon is seemingly able to look beyond meeting their own needs and both have fallen into the trap of involving him in inappropriately adult conversations.

Divorce or separation inevitably has a huge impact on children in a family and will result in them having to adjust to the situation. It is a tough time for all involved, whatever the cause of the separation, and it is vital that children are not caught in the middle or put in the position of feeling that they have to defend one parent to the other, or indeed, choose between their parents.

As his parents, Simon and Gemma are equally as important to Tom. As experienced family law solicitors putting children at the heart of everything we do, here is the advice we would give to Dr Foster.
